Knitting Club Norwegian/Swedish Smorgasbord

This is one of the two beautiful tables. Each of us got one of the Swedish woven hearts filled with candy to bring home.

This is my friend, Pat, in her Swedish costume.

Jane was crowned Uff Da! Queen for telling the best Ole and Lena joke.

Last night I attended the annual Norwegian/Swedish Smorgasbord for our knitting club, which this year was held at Barb's beautiful home. There were 14 of us, and each brought food to contribute to the julbord. For appetizers, we had Swedish glog, hardtack/flat bread, various cheeses, pickled beets, pickled herring (I don't like this), and deviled eggs (not Swedish, but brought by an Irish friend). After saying a Norwegian prayer in unison, we proceeded to the smorgasbord where the choices were: Swedish meatballs, scalloped potatoes, potato sausages (don't like these), corn pudding, rice pudding, cardamom bread (I brought this), lefse, marinated cucumbers, beet molded salad, and for dessert, pepparkakor, almond cake, krumkake, and lingonberry sparkle to drink. I may be missing something, but believe me, no one went hungry!

After eating, we sang some Swedish and Norwegian songs and told Ole and Lena jokes. We also had a small gift exchange - each of us brought a wrapped used book - great idea!

How fun was that! Love the tablescape. Also love the idea of bringing a used book. Sounds like a great party.

What a fun event!! Looks like a great time, with some pretty tasty food! (I would've skipped many of the pickled items myself, but pass the hard tack, cheese & meatballs please!)
